Join us for this workshop with Ocean State Media to tell multi-media story of the book that planted a seed in your life!What book planted a seed in your life? A childhood mainstay? A classic from high school that shaped the way you think? A recent diamond in the rough?
In this program for all ages you'll work with the librarians at George Hail Free Library and Ocean State Media educators to brainstorm about important books in your life and create a multi-media presentation for the group. 
This program is in collaboration with Ocean State Media and the Office of Library &amp; Information Services Summer Reading Pilot Program. This LEGO engineering program will encourage STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning. This program will teach kids about things like physics, mechanic, and architecture through build. LEGO engineering will introduce kids to new building items like axels and gears.

We will be creating these magical 4" beaded glass vase fridge magnets or table displays on a mirror (you will be able to choose your option the day of the workshop).&nbsp;&nbsp;You will be able to pick from endless flowers, leaves and butterflies to create something special.&nbsp; You will be making up to 8 different stems that you can arrange in your vase.&nbsp;Saturday, August 15 from 10am-12pm.Cost is $30 (all materials included).&nbsp;Fee due upon registration. Emily Johnson is an illustrator, animator and arts educator based in New England. She earned her BFA at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 2022. Specializing in stop motion animation and children's book illustration, her creative practice explores storytelling through handcrafted imagery, animation, and illustration.

The goal of this week long program is to introduce students to the
fascinating world of crime scene investigation in an age appropriate
way. Through a series of hands-on activities, students will explore
basic forensic science techniques such as dusting for fingerprints,
blood spatter analysis, and DNA extraction. &nbsp;Throughout the series of
classes, students will connect scientific principles to real life
application, inspiring student to consider potential careers in forensic
science.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
Ages 10-15
August 17-20 | Mon-Thurs 9-11am
Cost is $150 per student&nbsp;

Blithewold Manor, Gardens & Arboretum

Assistant Grounds Manager Dan Daley will lead a tour of Blithewold’s Rhode Island Champion trees. Learn about the age of each tree and its historical significance, in addition to the growth habit, bark type, soil and drought tolerance, disease, and pest issues of each tree. Visitors will be given a list of current champions before the walk and are encouraged to ask questions. Each visitor will gain general knowledge of the champion trees at Blithewold and leave more inspired by each tree’s majestic beauty.
This is a walking tour across the entire property, so please dress and plan accordingly.
