East Bay Rowing Circumnavigates Aquidneck Island

On Saturday June 22nd 30 hardy souls embarked upon an epic adventure to depart Bristol RI and circumnavigate Aquidneck Island on a sliding seat 6 person gig. The track took the teams up the Sakonnet River, past 3rd Beach, out into the open ocean, and back up the bay past Newport to Bristol. 5 teams of 6 rowers from ages 13 to 60+ switched every few hours to  battle their way up through the wind and waves and then were rewarded by flying back up the bay with the wind and elements at their backs. All in all, the GPS tracker shows that there were 42 miles covered with each rower finding their own personal glory and pain (sore backs, aching rears, white tents that wouldn’t disappear) but ending the days with smiles all around.

East Bay Rowing thanks Dharma Voyage for the collaboration and efforts throughout the day as well as their fantastic boat. If interested in more activity with their boat and organization take a look at them over on the Bristol waterfront and on the web.
