Recognize Equal Pay Day on March 15 to symbolize how far women are “in the red” with their paycheck. This is the point into the new year that a woman must work to earn the wages paid to a man in the previous year. Women across the United States will join in a national day of action called Equal Pay Day.
In 2020, median annual earnings in the U.S. for men working full time was $61,417 compared to just $50,982 for women, according to the most recent census data. That means women working full time in the U.S. are paid 83 cents to every dollar earned by men.
Effective January 1, 2023, the Rhode Island Equal Pay Law prohibits employers from paying an employee at a wage rate less than the rate paid to employees of another race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, age (40 years or older), or country of ancestral origin for comparable work (RI Gen.
