Homecoming Celebration and Potluck Supper

First Baptist Church to host a Homecoming Celebration and Potluck Supper to celebrate 200th anniversary.

On August 22, 1811, the First Baptist Church of Bristol was founded with 23 members, seven men and 16 women.  During that time the Baptist place of worship was Dr. Thomas Nelson’s home at 82 State Street, Bristol, RI. He had furnished a large “upper room” called the Tabernacle Room for worship services.

On Monday, August 22, friends and members of Bristol’s First Baptist Church will celebrate their bicentennial year with an informal gathering, beginning with an hour of bell ringing with the church’s 189 year old bell.  At 6:00 p.m. members will meet to enjoy a time of fellowship, a brief worship service, hymn sing, and potluck supper.  An exhibit of First Baptist’s history is open for all visitors.

All members of the community are invited to attend all events and services.  The First Baptist Church, known as the Stone Chapel on the Commonis located at 250 High Street, and meets Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m.  Worship service is led by Rev. Nathaniel Manderson, pastor.  Communion is served on the first Sunday of every month.  A time of fellowship and refreshment follows all services.  All area residents and visitors are welcome to attend.  For more information please visit our website, listed below.
