Linden Place Museum Presents a Lecture and Bus Tour Exploring the Life and Work of Russell Warren

Mr. Woodward, principal architectural historian for the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, will present a lecture on the life and work of Russell Warren on September 29th, 2011 at 7 pm. in the Rogers Free Library, Hope Street, Bristol Rhode Island. Warren’s work, including his Providence Arcade (1828) and the DeWolf Mansion “Linden Place” (1810), will be discussed in the broader context of American Architecture between 1800 and 1860. This overview of Warren’s life and half century of designing homes for the mercantile elite of Bristol, Fall River, New Bedford, and South Carolina, will provide a framework for a series companion bus tour on Saturday October 1st which will provide a firsthand look at some of Russell Warren’s most notable structures. The tour will travel through the mansion districts of Fall River and New Bedford and will include rare special access to two Warren designed homes: the Joseph Durfee House and the Rodman House.

The lecture is free and the bus tour, including lunch, is $25.00 Advance reservations are necessary and may be made by calling the Linden Museum office at 401-253-0390 The October 1 bus tour departs Linden Place, 500 Hope Street, Bristol promptly at 10 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m. Comfortable attire appropriate for walking is suggested.
