The Summer Solstice at Blithewold, with Jan Armor
“Last Light” in a spectacular location!
Wednesday, June 20, 6:00 p.m. Rain date: Thursday, June 21, 6:00 p.m.
The summer solstice marks the first day of the season of summer; this year it falls on Wednesday, June 20th. Solstices occur when the sun is at its greatest distance from the equator, the time when the sun reaches its northernmost latitude and therefore appears at its highest point in the sky at noon.
Blithewold, with its sweeping lawn and fantastic views of Narragansett Bay, is the perfect location to take sunset pictures on this day. Join Jan Armor and like-minded photographers in celebrating the setting sun on the summer solstice. The longest day of the year means the sun will set at 8:22 p.m. Although Jan cannot guarantee the most picturesque sunset of your life, he can predict that you will learn tips and techniques for improving your photography skills and that you will have fun taking sunset photos!
The group will meet at 6 p.m. in the Carriage House, where Jan will discuss sunset and low-light photography techniques. We begin photographing a little before the actual setting of the sun and continue shooting into the twilight. Then back to the barn for a discussion and sharing of selected images by participants. Refreshments will be provided.
This event is appropriate for photographers of all levels, including “point and shooters”
who know how to set their cameras.
