The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation has organized educational and engaging activities to take place at the Hope Bus, which will be part of the East Bay Head Start Family Day. Educational programs and screening information will be available.
Mastery Martial Arts will also be on-site to conduct their popular “Breaking Boards for Breast Cancer”. In this interactive and fun session, individuals will learn the martial arts skill of breaking. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase wooden boards for $5. The boards may be decorated and inscribed with messages of hope or messages in memory of loved ones, and are broken and burned at the “Flames of Hope” celebration at WaterFire.
An artist will teach Zentangle, an easy-to-learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. The relaxing and meditative workshop is part of The Gloria Gemma Foundation’s efforts to help individuals in the healing process through art and other forms of creative expression.
The Hope Bus is a 38-foot, residential-style recreation vehicle (RV) The Gloria Gemma Foundation is using to carry out its Mobile Resource and Wellness Center. With the new special outreach program, The Gloria Gemma Foundation will serve individuals in Rhode Island’s 39 towns and cities, with a special focus on individuals who are un- and underinsured, as well as low-income minorities. These individuals are often unable to travel to the Pawtucket office to avail themselves of the many programs and services.
The Hope Bus was acquired with a generous donation from The Halkyard Family Fund. The Mobile Resource and Wellness Center is supported by The Rhode Island Foundation and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island Community Health Fund.
