Joseph and Betty Brito Will Lead the Bristol Fourth of July Parade

The Bristol Fourth of July Committee names husband and wife to lead the nation's oldest Independence Day parade.

The Bristol Fourth of July Committee introduced husband and wife Joseph Jr. Elizabeth "Betty" Brito as chief marshals for the 2011 Bristol Fourth of July parade Wednesday evening at the Burnside Memorial Building. The identity of the chief marhsal or marshals is a closely guarded secret that is not revealed until the April meeting of the Fourth of July committee.

Mrs. Brito taught English in the Bristol public school system for 28 years and finished her career as chairwoman of the Mt. Hope High School English department. She has been an active volunteer for such organization as the Junior League of Rhode Island, Linden Place and Rogers Free Library. As president of the library trustees, she led the effort to raise money and renovate and expand the town's library several years ago.

Her husband is a businessman, developer and executive vice president of CB Utility Co. in Bristol.
