Florida Woman Charged With Falsely Obtaining More Than $10K In Property: Cops

The Florida woman was arrested by the Rhode Island State Police Financial Crimes Unit, police said.

A Florida woman was charged with obtaining more than $10,000 worth of property by false pretenses or personation, police said.

Melissa Smith, 56, was also charged with accessing a computer for fraudulent purposes, the Rhode Island State Police said in a media release.

Smith was arrested Thursday by the state police Financial Crimes Unit, the release said.

Smith was processed at state police headquarters, arraigned by a justice of the peace and released with a court date, according to police.
