Last and Living Wills

People often ask what the difference is between a Will and a Living Will...

A Last will disposes of your assets after your death - ensuring that your estate is broken down in a manner which is acceptable to you. If you die without a will, your estate will be distributed through probate according to the state's intestacy laws.

A living will is used to provide health care instructions in advance, such as whether a person would like to be put on life support. This type of will is important in the case of a medical situation where you are no longer able to make decisions for yourself.

If you do not have a will, either living or last, you should take some time to think about what you would like for medical treatment, or in the distribution of your estate, and contact a lawyer to get one drawn up. If you have any questions/comments please leave them here via comments, or send them to me via email at lbowie@wbblegal.com.
