New Nonprofit to Provide Bricks, Mortar, Paint, and Clapboards

Warren, R.I. (August 17, 2013) – On May, 29, 2013 eight concerned citizens incorporated a nonprofit named Warren Heritage Foundation with the specific mission to protect, restore, and maintain buildings, structures, sites, objects, districts, and open spaces possessing historical and architectural significance in the town of Warren. The initial Board of Directors consisted of Julie Blount, Marcia Blount, Keri Cronin, Nick Heywood, Scott Mathison, Lombard Pozzi, Alexander Scott, and Elizabeth Warren. The Board was saddened by the untimely passing of Lombard Pozzi. Kristin Dalbec has joined the Foundation as our eighth board member.

In order to celebrate the creation of Warren Heritage, the board is organizing a Gala Event and Fundraiser for the night of Saturday, September 7th to be held at the Eddy Cutler House, circa 1806, home of Alexander B. Scott at 30 State Street in Warren. “Our Common Heritage” will be an evening of Gypsy Jazz and Oysters, dancing, dining and sharing of our mission and goals for the future. We are excited to offer fine hors d’oeuvres prepared by Joe Simone of The Sunnyside, local oysters farmed by Peter Sebring of Atlantic Aquaculture and shucked by Eli Dunn of The Beehive and a selection of wine and beer by Grapes and Grains. Please join us! Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased online at www.WarrenHeritageFoundation.org or in person at DISH, 155 Water Street, Warren. Visit our website for description of our fabulous silent and live auction items.

Unlike other preservation entities within the town, Warren Heritage intends to directly fund the care and maintenance of historic buildings. The Foundation will endeavor to address the structural, mechanical, electrical and aesthetic issues facing the town’s most important historic buildings and sites. Warren Heritage has received a gift of $16,000 to fund a “Conditions Report and Master Plan” for the First United Methodist Church, located at 25 Church Street. This comprehensive report will be prepared by the architectural firm of Haynes de Boer Associates of Providence. Haynes - de Boer has been the architect of record in similar restoration projects, such as the First Baptist Church in America and Beneficent Congregational Church in Providence, and Trinity Church in Newport.
