Small-Scale Beekeeping
Join Blithewold and learn about collecting honeybee swarms, harvesting honey and rendering beeswax in our Small-Scale Beekeeping event!
Do you want to increase vegetable and fruit yields, protect pollinators, improve local food security and potentially receive a sweet bonus of honey? In this talk, experienced beekeeper Sanne Kure-Jensen will discuss honeybees’ life cycle and their favorite food plants. Learn to site apiaries, install package bees, collect honeybee swarms, harvest honey and render beeswax. Hear about equipment needs and receive a 3-season planting guide for nectar and food plants.
Sanne has been an organic grower and beekeeper for over a decade. She offers workshops on beekeeping, pollinators, ecological landscaping, composting and home brewing. Sanne also manages educational programs and outreach for the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Rhode Island (NOFA/RI).
Refreshments will be served and a limited amount of honey will be available for sale after the program.
