Where Have You Spotted Pothole Problems?

Winter weather wreaks havoc on our community in a number of ways, but potholes are definitely one of the most frustrating.

Who doesn't love driving in what feels like an off-roading adventure, bump, bump, bumping along as we cringe at what's it's probably doing to our vehicle? Not fun.

As potholes continue to appear on local streets, we want your help keeping tabs on the problem. If you've spotted a particularly bad crater, share the news in the comments section so other Bristol and Warren residents can be aware of where they are, and hopefully avoid them.

 If you believe a pothole may have caused damage to your vehicle, you should:

• Contact the  (253-6900) or the  (245-1311) and complete an incident report.
• Determine if the pothole is on a state road or a town road.  If on a state road, the matter should be directed to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation/Maintenance Division (401-222-6765, ext. 4817).
• If pothole is on a town road, bring the following documents to the Town Clerk's office (Bristol) or the Town Manager (Warren):
  • Copy of the incident report (including photos of the area)
  • Copy of valid registration certificate for the damaged vehicle
  • Copy of repair invoice or estimate
  • Letter stating that a claim is being filed against the town for damages resulting from pothole (including vehicle make, model, year, circumstances for event and location of incident).

In evaluating the claim, a determination will be made of whether the town has been put on notice for the pothole or other road conditions. If the town has not been put on notice prior to the incident, it may be determined that the town is not liable for the repairs. 

Residents are also requested to call the  at 253-4100, or the at 245-0200 to report a pothole.
