• Viola Davis Celebrates Turning 61: 'My Value Is Going Up' (complex.com) — Central Falls is set to benefit directly from Viola Davis and Julius Tennon's $1.2 million investment in the new Mary Alice Davis Family Engagement Center, which will expand food, housing, education, and workforce services for residents. The EGOT-winning actor, who grew up in poverty in the city, describes the project as part of her commitment to leave the next generation with more than she had. Her birthday reflections on aging and self-worth tie back to giving back at home.
• Here's what happened on a busy Thursday night of RI high school sports (providencejournal.com) — Central Falls athletes are featured in a packed slate of Rhode Island high school games, including matchups at Macomber Stadium against Mt. Hope and the Juanita Sanchez/St. Patrick co-op. The roundup recaps Thursday's soccer, tennis, and volleyball results while listing upcoming contests across the state. It's a handy guide if you're following local teams or planning your next game night.
