COVENTRY, RI — A man and woman were seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with a car, police said.
Officers responded to the crash on New London Turnpike at Wendy Drive shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Coventry Police Department said in a media release.

Officers and rescue personnel "immediately rendered medical aid to the adult male motorcycle operator, and adult female motorcycle passenger, who were thrown several feet into the
roadway," the release said. "In addition, the motorcycle caught fire because of the collision and was put out with fire
extinguishers by area neighbors."

The driver of the other vehicle was checked and "reportedly uninjured," according to the release.
The man and woman thrown from the motorcycle were taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, per the release, and their condition was serious.

"Initial witnesses reportedly observed the motorcycle operating recklessly in the area, prior to the collision," the release said.

The Coventry Police Department is seeking additional witnesses to the collision, to include any dash-cam video available, or those who witnessed the reported reckless operation of the motorcycle (described as a blue Kawasaki)," the release said.
