WARWICK, RI — Saturday officially marks half a century since the moon landing, widely considered one of man's greatest modern achievements. Conimicut, a village in Warwick, is holding a parade to mark the momentous occasion.

"July 20, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of mankind’s first step onto an extra-terrestrial body," the Conimicut Village Association's website reads. "Yet, in the past few decades, this historic American achievement has been little celebrated."

The parade will begin at Clegg Field on Winter Avenue, where parade participants will be staged before step-off at 11 a.m. From there, the parade will march along Winter Avenue to West Shore Road, where they will turn left and continue to Birchwood Avenue, where the parade will end. Speeches, food trucks and a craft fair will follow at the American Legion on West Shore Road.

Immediately following the parade, the parade's Grand Marshal, retired astronaut Sherwood "Woody" Spring, will make a speech, followed by remarks from Warwick Mayor Joseph Solomon and Governor Gina Raimondo. Inside the American Legion, a craft fair will be held in the larger hall while videos of the moon landing will be streamed in the smaller hall.

Several food trucks will also be at the end of the parade route, offering attendees pizza, ice cream, doughboys and more.

More information is available on the Conimicut Village Association's website.
