Coventry Residents Displaced By House Fire

Crews saw heavy fire and smoke when firefighters first arrived, which made getting inside the burning home difficult.

COVENTRY, RI — A family was displaced after a fire late Wednesday afternoon ravaged their home at 464 Fairview Avenue.

According to Coventry Fire Chief Robert Warren, the fire started before 4 p.m., on the second floor of the house

Warren told WPRI 12 crews saw heavy fire and smoke when firefighters first arrived, which made getting inside the burning home difficult.

"Everything was boarded up and locked and nailed closed," Warren told WPRI 12. "So it became a very tough issue to get into the building."

Coventry Police said everyone who lived in the house managed to escape unharmed. The residents are being helped out by the Red Cross. Fairview Avenue was temporarily shut down.

The Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s office also responded is assisting the investigation to determine what caused the fire. Police said the cause is unknown at this time.
