Free Private Well Water Workshop

Your drinking water tastes and smells fine – but, when was the last time you had it tested? And, what should it be tested for and where? These questions and others will be answered by water quality experts from URI and the RI Department of Health at a free program on Monday, April 27, 2015 from 6:00–7:00 PM at the Brown Avenue School Cafeteria at 14 Brown Avenue in Johnston, RI.
If you have a private well, you are responsible for having it tested and making sure it is safe for you and your family to drink. Following the well testing schedule developed by the RI Department of Health helps private well owners protect their family and identify any potential problems. We will review what to test for and when, where to have the water tested, and discuss some basic well maintenance tips.
“Workshop participants will learn about substances that can affect well water, why they are a concern, how to arrange for a well water test, and well water treatment options,” said Alyson McCann, with URI Cooperative Extension’s Water Quality Program. Educational handouts and water testing kits from the RI Dept. of Health will be available for participants. Following the workshop, experts will be on-hand to answer additional questions.
