Generator Blamed In Massive Coventry House Fire

Coventry Police say all residents of the house made it out safely, and only minor injuries were reported.

COVENTRY, R.I. -- A Plainfield Pike home was destroyed Monday evening after a portable generator caught fire and spread.

Crews arrived at 993 Plainfield Pike just before 9 p.m. According to Western Coventry Fire Chief James Cady, high winds had knocked out power to the home, necessitating the portable generator. Cady said that this fire is believed to have been ignited because the generator was too close to an old doghouse that was covering it.
