Making Their Mark: Two Coventry Collegians Made School Sports Teams
Tristin Carlton was named to Liberty League Football All-Academic Team, and Zack Szymkowicz ran Cross country for Assumption.

COVENTRY, RI—Tristin Carlton has been named to Liberty League Football All-Academic Team, according to Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
He's on the A-list, as far as school sports go, and he's got plenty of company, WPI said. One or more Engineers have been selected 174 times.
"Led by four-time honoree Vinny Tavernelli, the Engineers racked up 174 selections under seventh-year head coach Chris Robertson," the school said. "During that time, WPI has boasted the most honorees five times, including 30 in 2012 and again in 2013.Overall, the Crimson and Gray have touted 209 during their tenure in the Liberty League.

"Seniors Paul DePlacido, Chad DellaPorta, Andrew Dunne, Kevin Lynch and Will Pope earned the accolade for the third time. Tavernelli, Lynch and Pope were also recently named Academic All-District I.
Juniors Justin Coppolino, Aaron Hartford, Conor Hoey, Dereck Pacheco, Blake Rice and Nabeel Tokatli all took home their second honor. Making the list for the first time is junior Anthony Wilkens along with sophomores Tristin Carlton, Luca Cerasani, Nick Day, Joe DePaolo-Boisvert, Sam Malafronte, Tyler Rauch and Collin Saunders.

Student-athletes with a full year in residence at their institution who carry a 3.3 cumulative grade point average into a season of competition qualify for the Liberty League All-Academic Teams.
And at Assumption College, also in Worcester, another Coventry resident is making a name for himself as an athlete.
"Zack Szymkowicz earned a coveted spot on the 2016-17 Assumption College Men's Cross Country team," the school said. Szymkowicz is competing during the Greyhounds' fall season.
The squad finished sixth in the Northeast-10's President's Cup. The team was also voted ninth in the NE-10 Pre-Championship Poll, the school said.
