Pawtucket Kidnapper Crashed Into House And Killed: Cops

The Pawtucket man abducted three at knife-point, police said.

COVENTRY, RI — A Pawtucket man crashed his car into a house and was killed after kidnapping three at knife-point, police said.

Derek Decosta, 50, was fleeing the law when he ran his car into a residence on Main Street near Sandy Bottom Road in Coventry, police said in a media release.

Prior to the fatal crash, the cops were called to a house on Anthony Street near St. Vincent DePaul St. shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday to investigate a "disturbance," according to reh release.

While officers were on the way, the "caller advised that three victims were forced into a vehicle against their will at knifepoint," the release said.

Officers spotted the vehicle on Washington Street and pulled it over, according to the release.

"Once stopped, the suspect vehicle then backed into a Coventry Police patrol vehicle causing minor damage," the release said. "At that time, all victims within the vehicle exited safely."

Decosta then took off and officers lost sight of the vehicle, according to the release, but found it again after it crashed into the house on Main Street.

"No one in that residence was injured, but they were displaced for the evening due to damage from the crash," the release said.

Decosta was taken to Kent Hospital in Warwick, where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.
