Pink Bag Program Allows Coventry Residents To Recycle Clothing
Coventry residents can now recycle clothing, bedding, books and other household items at the curb.
COVENTRY, RI — Coventry residents have a new way to keep unwanted clothing out of Rhode Island's landfill. The Coventry Public Works Department has launched a new initiative, called the Pink Bag recycling program, that allows clothing to be recycled on the curb with other household trash and recycling.
The pink bags were sent to Coventry residents in the mail earlier this month. When full, residents can place them on the curb next to trash and recycling bins. To avoid accidentally being ripped by collection workers, bags should be placed slightly off to the side of the bins rather than in front or in between.
All types of clothing and fabric items can be placed in the bags, as well as other household items including books and kitchen items. All of the following items can be recycled in pink bags:

- New or gently used clothing
- Boots and shoes
- Bedding: sheets, pillow cases, blankets, comforters, quilts
- Belts
- Ties
- Bras
- Coats and jackets
- Handbags and purses
- Hats and gloves
- Kitchen items
- Linens
- Pillows
- Sandals and slippers (single or in pairs)
- Stuffed animals
- Table linens
- Tools
- Towels
Additional bags can be requested online or can be picked up at the Coventry Public Works office at 1670 Flat River Rd. beginning next week.
