Police ID Woman Killed, Man Injured In 'Accidental' Coventry Shooting, 2 Dogs Also Die

COVENTRY, RI — Police on Wednesday identified the woman who died and the man "gravely" injured in an "accidental" shooting that happened at a Coventry home on Tuesday afternoon.

Coventry police said they also found two dead dogs at the home on Mulberry Court.

Around 2:49 p.m., Coventry police and firefighters were called to a home on Mulberry Court for a report of an "accidental" shooting.

Police said when officers arrived, they found two adults with gunshot wounds. One woman, Linda Beckman, 60, of Coventry, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Emergency officials rushed a man to Kent County Memorial Hospital in Warwick, who suffered serious injuries. Police identified the man as James Beckman, 60, of Coventry. Authorities said Beckman remains in critical condition, as of Wednesday morning.

According to police, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public.
