Small Game Hunting Workshop Planned For Nov. 17
The Department of Environmental Management will hold a mentored hunt after the workshop.

EXETER, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management will hold a small game hunting workshop on Sunday. The course will cover small game species and their habitats, rules and regulations, firearm safety and proper field methods, the department said.
The program will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Camp E-Hun-Tee in Exeter.
After the workshop, participants will be able to join a mentored hunt, provided they have a current Rhode Island hunting license. All participants must provide their own firearms.

Space in the program is limited, and requires registration. To sign up, email Scott Travers at Scott.travers@dem.ri.gov.
Small game commonly found in Rhode Island includes rabbit, pheasant, grey squirrel, bobwhite quail and red and grey foxes. The season runs from October until February. Woodcock season is open through Dec. 2, while the second part of the mourning dove season runs through Dec. 1.

Each year, more than 70,000 licenses, permits, stamps and tags are sold in the state each year, the department said, contributing about $235 million to the state's economy. These funds, along with federal funding, support outdoor recreation opportunities across the state.
