3 Postal Employees Plead Guilty To Mail Theft At Providence Distribution Center

PROVIDENCE, RI — Three postal employees pleaded guilty to stealing mail from the U.S. Mail Processing and Distribution Center in Providence.

Fernando Camacho, 31, of Providence, Angel Rivera, 30, of Providence, and Cyril Murray, 46, of Pawtucket all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to steal mail and theft of U.S. Mail by a postal employee, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a media release.

Camacho, Rivera, Murray and several unidentified co-conspirators "participated in a scheme that operated between early 2023 and early 2024," according to the release.

"As part of this conspiracy, the group of postal service employees sorted through the mail and removed brightly colored envelopes that they believed to contain cash, checks, or gift cards," the release said.

"They concealed those envelopes in backpacks and removed them from the facility to later distribute amongst the group," according to the release.

"Camacho admitted that during his participation in the scheme, between $40,000 and $95,000 in cash, gift cards, and checks were stolen," the release said. "Rivera admitted that during his participation in the scheme, between $95,000 and $150,000 in cash, gift cards, and checks were stolen. Murray, a supervisor at the mail distribution center, admitted that during his participation in the scheme, between $95,000 and $150,000 in cash, gift cards, and checks were stolen."

Camacho, Rivera and Murray's were scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 29.
