State Police: Coventry Suspect In Custody

Vincent D'Ambra turned himself in last night, state police said.

COVENTRY, RI — Vincent D'Ambra was a wanted man after he allegedly hit several cruisers and crashed into a building on Wednesday after police tried to arrest him. He managed to escape and run away. But last night, state police said, he turned himself into the authorities at the West Warwick police station.

The incident started in Warwick where he went, police allege, on the expectation he would be meeting a 13-year-old girl for sex. There was no 13-year-old waiting, but there were police officers. He had been duped by the State Police Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The Task Force recently started to investigate an individual soliciting a child over the Internet, state police said.

"D’Ambra responded to an online posting and began a series of communications with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old female. The conversation quickly became sexually explicit," according to police. "When D’Ambra arrived at a pre-arranged location, ICAC Task Force members attempted to place him under arrest." He fled.

D'Ambra, 27, of Coventry has been charged with the following after a warrant was obtained for his arrest: Indecent Solicitation of a Child, Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Vehicle), Resisting Arrest, Duty to Stop – Accident Resulting in Damage to an Attended Vehicle (2 counts), and Reckless Driving/Eluding Officer. He was arraigned today at Kent County Courthouse. Bail was set at $5,000 with surety.
