Taco Bell Cats Put Up for Adoption

The two cats that were left at a Taco Bell on Tiogue Avenue can go to new homes, Coventry police said.

COVENTRY, RI—The two cats dropped at the Taco Bell in January are still with Coventry's animal control officer, but they are available for adoption, Lt. Matthew Blair said.

To make arrangements to see the cats, call the animal control officer at 401-822-9106. The shelter is open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., including weekends.

Police were notified about the abandonment on Jan. 26 at 12:51 a.m. They went to the restaurant and retrieved the animals and also confirmed the witness accounts by looking at surveillance footage. They posted some of the footage on social media and asked for tips.

According to the animal control officer, the cats can go to new homes, but it's not that easy finding the right situation. One cat is very frightened and does not show well when prospective new owners have arrived. The other cat is "very elderly." The animal control officer said this:

"If anyone is interested in providing them with an understanding home, we would be happy to show them.”
