10-Time Grammy Winning Take 6 Comes to Park Theatre

One thing the Park Theatre in Cranston has in store for its seemingly endless array of Grammy-winning artists who appear on stage.

This time, with Take 6 booked to perform a Saturday show on Oct. 12 at the historic Cranston landmark, the awards won by the performers over their 25-year-career could be described as a "seemingly endless array" as well.

Count: Ten Dove Awards. Ten Grammy Awards. A Soul Train award, and more. Arguably the most awarded vocal group in music history, Take 6 is the quintessential A Capella group in music today.

The group, comprised of Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Joel Kibble, Dave Thomas, Alvin Chea, and Khristian Dentley, have been described as "the baddest vocal cats on the planet" by Quincy Jones, are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a special performance at the Park. The show opens with internationally-renowned Harlem Gospel Choir.

According to a release, their "six virtuosic voices unite in crystal clear harmony against a backdrop of syncopated rhythms, innovative arrangements, and funky grooves that bubble into an intoxicating blend of gospel, jazz, R&B, and pop."

With praise from such luminaries as Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and late superstars Ella Fitzgerald and Whitney Houston, this multi-platinum sextet has collaborated across multiple genres while delighting audiences around the globe.

Signed to Reprise Records/Warner Bros. in 1987, Take 6 has come a long way from their days at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama. Their self-titled debut album won over jazz and pop critics alike while taking home two Grammy Awards and landing in the Top Ten Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. 

Opening for Take 6 from the heart of Harlem in New York City is the renowned Harlem Gospel Choir. Considered the most prominent gospel choir in the world, the Harlem Gospel Choir travels the globe as ambassadors for African-American culture. The group was formed on Martin Luther King’s birthday in 1986.

Each Sunday, the group performs at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York, where their strong following comes from far and wide to share their joy and faith through music. Throughout their award-winning career, the Choir has performed for Nelson Mandela, Pope John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, Sir Elton John and two Presidents, while sharing the stage with such legendary artists as Bono, Diana Ross, Sinead O’Connor, Whoopi Goldberg, The Chieftains, and many others.

Take 6 and the Harlem Gospel Choir will take the stage at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
