164 New Cases Of Coronavirus in Rhode Island; 14 Deaths

To date, Rhode Island has had 11,614 cases of the coronavirus and 444 deaths.

PROVIDENCE, RI — For the second day in a row, the Rhode Island Department of Health reported fewer new cases of the coronavirus than days past. On Tuesday, there was 164 new cases and 14 deaths.

To date, there have been a total of 444 deaths and 11,614 cases. There are currently 277 people in the hospital, 72 people in intensive care units and 53 on ventilators.

Tuesday marks the second day in a row Rhode Island has reported fewer than 200 new cases in a single day, which, aside from the weekend of May 2 and 3, hasn't happened since the first week of April.

New community-level data shows that although Providence has continually had the highest number of cases, Central Falls has the highest rate per capita at 3,173 cases per 100,000 people compared to 2,073 cases per 100,000 people in Providence. Smithfield also has a high rate of infection compared to its population, with 999 cases per 100,000 residents.

A map created by the department shows that the highest per capita infection rates are centered around the Providence area, with considerably lower rates in the western half of the state, particularly the southwestern corner, as well as the East Bay.
