2 Cheeses Sold In RI Recalled For Potential Listeria Contamination

RHODE ISLAND — Old Europe Cheese Inc. has recalled two of its cheeses solid in Rhode Island, according to the state Department of Health.

The company recalled its brie and Camembert cheeses because of a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

All Old Europe Cheese Brie and Camembert products with best-by dates through Dec. 14, 2022 are impacted by this recall. The recalled products were distributed from Aug. 1 through Sept 28, and were sold at supermarkets, wholesale, and retail stores nationwide, including at Shaw's, Price Chopper, Market Basket, Stop & Shop and Whole Foods stores in Rhode Island.

Anyone who has these products should throw them away or return them to the store they were bought at. The recall has been linked to several illnesses nationwide, state health officials said.

Eating food contaminated with Listeria can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, people with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Symptoms are sometimes preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal problems.
