The Addams Family Musical – Creepy, funny & raising funds for the arts

Are all families kooky? Perhaps. But the Addams Family is really out there. If you missed the Addams Family Musical on Broadway, here’s your chance to see it and help support the arts for students in the region. The musical is presented by the Johnston Dance and Performing Arts (J-Dapa) company whose mission is ““…keep the arts alive and assist in renovations of the Johnston High School Auditorium.” Proceeds will also benefit the newly formed dance, drama, and technical arts scholarship offered by J-Dapa.

A cast of many Johnston-area students and new faces, from age 12 to the late 50s, take the stage at Johnston Senior High Auditorium, 345 Cherry Hill Rd., Johnston April 10th, 11th, 17th, at 7:00pm and the 18th at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. To reserve your tickets call 401-944-4866. The production is directed by Donna Cordeau-Tellier and choreographed by her daughter, Brieanna Tellier.

The Addams Family Musical is an original story, and it’s every father’s nightmare! Torn between love (and lust) for his wife Morticia and devotion to his daughter Wednesday, Gomez Addams the loving patriarch must do something he’s never done before to preserve the family misery. Beacon Charter School for the Arts 2013 graduate Kylie Chartier will be playing the role of Wednesday Addams.

“J-DAPA promotes a love and appreciation for the arts through involving performers of all ages throughout the Rhode Island community,” said Cordeau-Tellier. “We strive to raise funds in effort to renovate the Johnston Senior High School auditorium.”

In a unique relationship with the high school, J-Dapa’s programs, which are offered at the school, are raising funds to enhance the auditorium, including:

· replace the seats in the auditorium

· improve stage lighting

· secure headsets for J-Dapa’s technical team and for the use of high school events

· enlarge the stage so that the high school and middle school chorus can fit comfortably on stage at their performances (as well as the Ferri Middle School band and High School band.)

“Showing our children that working together towards a common goal, towards making a dream come true, is something they need in their lives,” said Cordeau-Tellier. “I have seen the pride in our students from raising money to purchases a curtain for our stage, a sound system, spot lights, a marquee, and microphones just to name a few dreams that have come true.”

Scholarship information

The scholarship is for a Johnston High School senior who has either danced, acted, or been part of the J-Dapa technical support team. This student must also be furthering his or her education in the arts, be it dance, acting, costuming, technical support, etc.
