Almost Pickin' Time at Pippin Orchard

The folks at Pippin Orchard expect to open their orchards up for picking around Sept. 1.

A yearly tradition in Cranston is apple picking — specifically, apple picking at Pippin Orchard.

The trees are sagging due to the weight of juicy apples, which have been growing and ripening in the late-summer sun.

The harvest looks to be on track. Last year, in comparison, the apples ripened early and many apple pickers were left dissapointed and empty handed when they came to the orchard later in the fall. Extreme heat and dryness last summer caused the early ripening.
