Armed Intruders Hold Cranston Children in Room, Drag Mother Around House

Police said two men surprised a Wales Street woman alone with her children Friday night and struck her from behind with a gun.

The Cranston Police Department is investigating an armed home invasion on Wales Street Friday night during which two men broke in and as one suspect held two austitic children in a room, the other dragged their mother throughout the house looking for money.

Cranston Police Lt. Russell Henry Jr. said that the victim, a 36-year-old Hispanic woman, was surprised by the intruders at around 10 p.m.

The suspects reportedly entered the house at 116 Wales St., struck the woman from behind with a gun and demanded money.

β€œThe victim stated that the suspects both fled from the home without taking anything,” Henry said in a release. β€œDetectives believe that the residence was targeted and not randomly selected.”

The two suspects are described as men wearing grey hooded sweatshirts with dark pants. One was Hispanic and stands about 5-feet 10-inches tall with a medium build. The second is described as a light skinned man.

Police said a more detailed description of the suspects might be forthcoming.

Cranston police’s Bureau of Criminal Identification responded to the house and processed the scene for evidence for several hours after the incident.

Detectives Daniel Dempsey and Lee Sohn are investigating the incident and are working towards identifying suspects; anyone with information regarding this crime should contact them at (401) 942-2211.
