BankRI Cell Phone Drive to Benefit Women's Center

Throughout the month of May, Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) will hold a cell phone drive in support of the Women’s Center of Rhode Island. Members of the community are encouraged to stop by any of the bank’s 18 branch locations across the state to donate working, broken, cracked, and out-dated cell phones. All of the phones collected will be recycled, with the proceeds going directly to the Women’s Center of Rhode Island.

The Women’s Center of Rhode Island is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing domestic violence and educating the community about the dynamics of violence. The organization’s services are available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, and it is the only center in the Providence area serving individual women as well as mothers and their children. 

“Domestic violence is a serious issue that affects far too many of our families, friends, and neighbors,” said Patricia O’Donnell-Saracino, Vice President of Community Relations for BankRI. “The Women’s Center of Rhode Island is an incredible resource to help victims escape dangerous situations and regain control of their lives. I know our customers and staff will respond generously to this effort.”

The proceeds from the collections will fund services for victims of domestic violence and educational programs. The funds will also help to sustain the Women’s Center’s Emergency Shelter which is available to any victim of interpersonal violence.
