CCRI Knight Campus Declared Safe, Classes Resume

Community College of Rhode Island officials said the campus is safe and classes will resume at 2 p.m.

WARWICK, RI โ€” After shell casings were found in a hallway at the Community College of Rhode Island's Knight Campus Wednesday morning, school officials have declared that the campups is safe and classes will resume at 2 p.m. RIPTA bus service has resumed to the campus and the area has been declared completely safe by Warwick Police.

The order to evacuate came around 9:30 Wednesday morning, when a message posted on CCRI's official social media account asked students to remain calm and evacuate the campus immediately. The following message asked students to leave the area and not remain in the parking lot. All morning classes were immediately suspended.

The Warwick Police Department and members of the Rhode Island State Police were called to campus to investigate. Warwick police said the evacuation was done out of an abundance of caution after a shell casing was found in a common hallway inside the building.

A little before 10:30 a.m., another CCRI posted a second message assuring students and the public that there was not an active shooter on campus.

Police have not said if any arrests have been made or where the casing came from.

No other CCRI campuses were affected by the evacuation.
