Coronavirus: Raimondo Expected To Extend Distance Learning

Gov. Gina Raimondo will announce that students will not return to classrooms this school year, according to reports.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Gov. Gina Raimondo is expected to announce at her daily press briefing that distance learning will continue at all Rhode Island schools for the rest of the school year, according to reports. The governor said earlier in the week that she was carefully weighing the decision and would not make it lightly.

WPRI reported that several sources close to the decision said Raimondo decided not to send students back to classrooms this academic year. During several previous news conferences, she praised the effort of students and districts during distance learning, saying it was going well and many districts are reporting higher-than-average attendance rates.

The governor's daily briefing will be held at 1 p.m. and can be watched via livestream on her official Facebook page.
