Cranston Library Receives $500 Educational Grant

The funds will be used to pay for books and educational materials about medical imaging and radiation therapy.

CRANSTON, RI — The Cranston Library was selected to receive a $500 grant to help teach the public about medical imaging and radiation therapy. The funds from the American Society of Radiologic Technologists will pay for books and other education materials, the library said in a release.

The grant announcement comes ahead of National Radiologic Technology Week, which celebrates medical imaging and radiation therapy workers across the country during the week of Nov. 8, celebrating the discovery of the X-ray on that date in 1985.

On Nov. 9, the Cranston Library will hold "X-Ray Vision Family Fun Day" at the central location, 140 Sockanosset Cross Road. The event will explore the human body through a variety of books, crafts and a virtual reality demo.

Starting at 10:30 a.m., a librarian will read "The Donut That Roared" and other books about x-ray vision. At 11 a.m., craft stations, a book display and virtual reality headsets will be available to the public.

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists is the world's largest organization of its kind, replresenting more than 156,000 professionals. Since 2016, the organization has funded grant for more than 300 libraries in every state.
