Cranston Mayor Reinstates Overnight Curfew
Mayor Allan Fung reinstituted the curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CRANSTON, RI — Cranston residents are again asked to stay inside overnight Friday after Mayor Allan Fung reinstated a curfew in the city. The one-day executive order will be in place from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.
Fung first issued a curfew order Tuesday night following violent overnight demonstrations in Providence that left windows broken, vehicles burned and businesses looted. Cranston was not alone one issuing a curfew: similar orders were declared in Providence, Warwick, Coventry, Woonsocket and other Rhode Island communities.
As of Friday, only Providence's curfew, which Mayor Jorge Elorza put in place for a week, was still in place. All others were only issued for Tuesday night or were rescinded in the days following.

Cranston's mayor said the decision to bring back the curfew was made due to safety concerns. Members of local police departments and Rhode Island National Guardsmen have been stationed at Garden City Center, the Warwick Mall and other areas throughout the week, and will continue to do so in the coming days, Gov. Gina Raimondo said.
