Cranston Police Holding Blood Drive Amid 'Blood Emergency'

CRANSTON, RI — The Rhode Island Blood Center is current experiencing its second blood emergency in the last 75 days, according to Cranston police.

Amid the emergency, Cranston police will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 21, in the police station's community room at 5 Garfield Ave.

"Currently, the supply stands at a 1-3 day level," police said in a statement on Facebook. "This also marks the second blood emergency in 75 days declared by RIBC, and the fifth overall in 2022. We typically like to see the supply stand at a 5-7 day level, but we have not seen that level in over 30 months!"

Anyone that donates blood will receive a free t-shirt while supplies last. Donors will also be entered for a chance to win a pair of tickets to "A Christmas Carol" by Trinity Rep on Dec. 17.
