CRANSTON, RI — A Cranston man died in a motorcycle crash on Pontiac Avenue over the weekend. John A. Mattesini III, 34, lost control of the bike and crashed just before midnight on Sunday, police said.

The crash happened between 550 and 570 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston police said. Witnesses said Mattesini was on a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle, heading south and going very fast. He then lost control, crashing into several "fixed objects" and sustained serious injuries. He later died and was identified during an autopsy by the Rhode Island Medical Examiner on Tuesday.

At this time, speed is the only factor believed to have contributed to the crash, police said.
