Cranston Sports Medicine Doctor Wins State's Only Performance Medicine Certification

Amity Rubeor is certified to treat dancers, musicians and other performance artists.

EAST GREENWICH, RI -- Dr. Amity Rubeor has been known in Town as a sports medicine specialist. Now, she is adding another specialty.

Rubeor, a Cranston resident, recently became Rhode Island's only doctor certified in performance medicine, designed for dancers, musicians and others active in the performing arts.

According to Care New England, the certification comes from the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and means she is qualified to treat a "specialized array of neuro-musculoskeletal and musculoskeletal conditions and injuries in musicians, dancers and other performers." She also deals with "general fitness, conditioning and rehabilitation, medical conditions, environmental concerns, hearing health, vocal health care, performance anxiety and psychological conditions and nutritional issues in dance medicine."

“My work in treating concussion patients has led me to take a strong interest in performance medicine," she said. "Given Rhode Island’s rich arts culture, it will be very beneficial to focus on this unique area of medicine."

She was graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and did her residency through the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

She is a board-certified family medicine practitioner and serves on the Care New England Comprehensive Concussion Center clinical team.
