For Cell Phone Needs, Consider Calling Local

If you're in the market for a new cell phone, or if your Android phone has a cracked screen and needs repair, there's an alternative to the major wireless chains right here in Cranston.

Data Stream Plus, which moved to 1285 Park Ave. about two weeks ago, is a one-stop-shop for all things cellular — and more.

Vice President Gerald Galleshaw said the store mainly specializes in cell phones, but it also offers a variety of wireless services and products including Clear Internet, which gives you high speed Internet access for your home using cellular networks, the digital telephone service Vonage and cell phone plans that offer unlimited data and text for as low as $40 per month.

"Depending on what looking for we can set up your home internet, your home TV, your home phone," said Galleshaw. "We also do wireless protection systems and we do monitoring systems."

The unlimited data plans are through national carriers that don't drop calls, Galleshaw said. A lot of people don't' realize that they can have an Android smart phone and get such a low-cost plan without going to a smaller, regional carrier like MetroPCS and Boost Mobile.

"We use companies that don't drop service," Galleshaw said. "It's a huge alternative to regional carriers that have a just a few cell towers in the area."

And if you're looking to replace your old phone, you might be able to get a decent price for it at Data Stream Plus. Galleshaw said that some phones have high resale values or fetch decent rates in the phone recycling markets because of some of the components they contain. As a result, you could get some cash for your old phone — something a big chain wireless store might not tell you.
