Fall Out of Summer Festival Provides Fun for the Whole Family

The 4th Annual Fall Out of Summer Festival was held by the Artists' Exchange on Sunday, September 25th from 11am to 5pm. Music, prizes, and activities provided an entertainment filled day for the whole family.

The Fourth Annual Fall Out of Summer Arts Festival at the brought people flocking to Rolfe Square on Sunday.

The festival was a large event located inside the Artists’ Exchange building and spilled out into the large parking lot adjacent to the theater. All were welcome, including pets, some of whom were entered in the Doggie Show Off Contest.

“It’s a good way to end the summer. It’s a good way to promote our classes,” said Rich Morra, Artistic Director.

The festival included activities for both children and parents to enjoy, as well as live music and theater. Over a dozen bands performed on five stages throughout the day. Jewelry, artwork, and even puppy supplies were displayed among rows of stands. Featured works were supplied by local artisans and vendors.

“A lot more vendors, certainly a lot more bands,” said Rich Morra. “Last year we had almost 2,000 people, be nice to have that many come back.”

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung came to show his support for the arts. In a short speech, the mayor expressed his excitement about the event and all the work done by the Artists’ Exchange to bring the community together.

Helping keep this event running smoothly were the many volunteers who showed up to lend a hand with the event, ranging from seasoned Artists’ Exchange members to those who had recently discovered this Cranston gem.

“We had 85 [volunteers] registered but we have 100 or so here,” said Erin La Ninfa, Volunteer Coordinator.

Actors from the Artists’ Exchanges upcoming production of “A Christmas Carol” were roaming around the festival and spreading awareness of the production. A preview was performed in the afternoon.

This year, the venue of the production has changed. Performances will be held in the Black Box Theatre as well as at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet.

If you have not yet been to the Artists’ Exchange, make sure to keep a look out for upcoming events. Within its walls is not only a theater, but an always growing family.

“I knew it was a good atmosphere,” said La Ninfa. “[They] go above and beyond to help you feel welcome. It’s nice to have it here in Cranston.”

As word of the festival spreads every year, it is sure to be bigger and better as the year’s progress. Whether you are looking for music, activities, shopping or even a new furry friend the Fall Out of Summer Festival is an event you do not want to miss.
