Fresh Local Food Now? Cranston Has It

Don't forget the Edgewood/Pawtuxet Village Winter Farmer's Market. It's open tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Note: this story was posted on Thursday, Feb. 22. If you didn't head to the market then, expect the next one to run in two weeks.

It's the time of year when local gardeners are itching for the thaw and to get started out there in the beds. It also is a time when fresh food and good seasonal produce at the supermarket is often lacking, imported from who-knows-where or hard to come by.

But you can still get locally-sourced food in Cranston. Tonight, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Edgewood Congregational Church, you can check out fresh greens, dried herbs, pastured meat, bread, local seafood and more. It's the Edgewood/Pawtuxet Village Winter Farmer's Market.

The market is open every two weeks.

Between May and November, the market has normally been held near Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet at 60 Rhodes Place. So far, support has been good as the market tries out winter hours.
