Updated: Garden City Borders will Remain Open
Borders, which is in the midst of a Chapter 11 reorganization, this week added the Garden City Borders to the list of stores slated for closure. On Friday, the company reversed those plans after getting concessions.

On Thursday, Borders Group announced this week that the will close in late May. Later today, company officials said they obtained concessions from its landlord and the store is no longer on the closure list.
The company filed for bankruptcy last month and is in the midst of a Chapter 11 reorganization.
The disappearance of Borders in Garden City would have continued a trend of vacancies in the southern half of the shopping plaza.

The shopping center is about to undergo a future transformation of the site at the hands of its manager, The Wilder Companies.
The company signed a leasing agreement with the high-end retailer in September and the new store . At the time of the opening, Wilder said it has plans to include more merchants “unique to the center and trade area” along with upgrades to building facades, better signage, smoothing out traffic flows and “increasing the synergy between the center’s three shopping areas.”

The store employs about 30 people.
Borders filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 16 and the Cranston location was not on the list of about 200 stores it said it planned to close. Twenty-eight additional locations were added to the list this week as the reorganization process moves forward, company officials said.
