The homeowner also had signs for Joe Trillo, an independent candidate for governor and Robert Flanders, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate.
GLOCESTER, RI — A sign for Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, a Republican candidate for governor was hung upside down from a noose in front of a Glocester home.

“Think about the message it’s sending to many of the kids in that neighborhood,” Fung told reporters at a press conference. “This hateful symbol which many of us hopefully had long forgotten is reappearing in this campaign and it has no place in our modern society and it’s just shameful.”

After harsh criticism from neighbors and the Fung campaign and threats from others, Homeowner Ray Izzolater Tuesday removed the campaign sign. Izzo apologized and told the Providence Journal he regrets his actions.
The homeowner's lawn also had signs for Joe Trillo, an independent candidate for governor and for Robert Flanders, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate, right-side up.

"The display is loaded with the baggage of a hateful history and extremely disrespectful towards Mayor Fung, an Asian-American leader of one of our great cities," Flanders' campaign said in an issued statement. "We request it be taken down immediately and that our lawn signs be returned from this property."
Trillo said he doesn't condone the sign display either.
"I'm disappointed that some people choose to express their feelings in that kind of manner," Trillo told ABC News. "It's an unfortunate situation."
After speaking with Izzo, Trillo also told WPRI 12 he doesn't believe the homeowner had hateful intentions. He told them he's convinced Izzo was trying to express his opinions, but did so in a politically incorrect way.
