Great Escape: March 3

Great Escape is a weekly column that tells you about one idea to give yourself a a much deserved break from the kids.

Sometimes you want to get away, but not too far away. Are you craving some French cuisine, but not up for a full-blown vacation to Paris? This week we're going to direct you onto Interstate 95 North and escape to the neighboring city of Providence, where you can tuck into a lovely French bistro called Café Noir.

The setting, service and food will give you just enough of a separation from the world. As soon as you pull into your driveway, parking lot, garage, or get off at your stop, you'll be ready to turn around and walk back in the Café's door.

Hors d'oeuvres and salads range from $5.75 (for Brasserie Salad) to $9.75 (for Les Petits Hamburgers). There are pizzas, daily specials, and entrees that vary in price (for example, $14.99 for Warm Chevre with Grilled Vegetables dish, and $19.99 for the tenderloin).

Café Noir has a full bar and wine list. The desserts are all made in house. Because of this, you're asked to order dessert when you order your dinner so the chefs have time to prepare everything.

Each meal ends with cotton candy brought to the table, making it feel as though you are heading home from a night at a carnival.
