Health Inspections: Violations at Brewed, Spain
The state Health Department reportedly noted several violations at the two restaurants during spot inspections.

The Rhode Island Health Department inspected two food service facilities in Cranston recently, finding violations at both.
Brewed Awakenings, 1200 Pontiac Ave., Cranston. The Health Department noted the following violations during an inspection on Sept. 11:
- An employee was observed washing their hands at the dump sink. Food employees shall clean their hands in a designated handwashing sink, not in a service (mop) sink, or food prep sink.
- Employees failed to wash their hands in between task such as handling raw eggs and changing gloves.
- The handsink in the customer service area was lacking paper towels.
- The handsinks in the kitchen and customer service area were blocked by crushed boxes, mops and brooms. A handwashing sink shall be accessible at all times for employee use.
- Raw animal food were stored above ready-to-eat foods in the walk-in refrigerator (such as eggs). Raw animal foods must be separated from raw ready-to-eat food such as vegetables during storage.
- The knives in the knife holder, the can opener and the slicer had an accumulation of food and debris. The food contact surfaces of equipment must be clean to sight and touch.
- Breaded chicken tenders, deli meat and cheese were held between 45 and 50 degrees F. Potentially hazardous food must be held at 41 degrees F or below, except during preparation, cooking or cooling.
- Deli meats, located in the walk-in cooler, were not marked with the date of preparation. Ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food, prepared in the establishment and held for more than 24 hours, must be marked with the date of preparation. General Manager placed date stickers on items during inspection.
- A container was observed being stored on the base of the slicer.
- Wet wiping cloths are not stored in a chemical sanitizer between uses. Wet wiping cloths must be stored in a chemical sanitizer at the appropriate concentration.
- The pipes beneath the third compartment of the three-bay sink located in the kitchen area were not in good repair. Plumber contacted. Pipes were fixed during inspection.
- The outside dumpster is not covered. Receptacles and waste handling units for refuse, recyclables and returnables shall be kept covered.
- Shellstock (mussels) located in walk-in cooler did not have the proper identification tags. Shellstock tags must remain attached to the container in which the shellstock are received until the container is empty. PIC retrieved shellstock tag for mussels.
- The soda gun is stored in stagnant water. During pauses in food preparation, utensils must be stored on a clean surface or in a clean protected location. Mangers are to ensure that soda guns are washed, rinsed, sanitized, air dried and kept out of stagnant water.
- The two-door low boy located in the kitchen/food prep area was not in good repair. Inspector observed a build up of water. Manager to have unit serviced.
- The nonfood-contact surfaces of containers of various dressing/condiments have an accumulation of dust, mold, soil residue and other debris. PIC washed, rinsed and sanitized food containers.
