Holy Apostles Parish Welcomes New Pastor
The church welcomed Msgr. Paul D. Theroux as pastor on Sunday.

The Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, presided at the Pastor Installation Mass of Rev. Msgr. Paul D. Theroux as pastor of Holy Apostles Parish, on Sunday, September 28.
Msgr. Theroux, a native of Warwick, attended Bishop Hendricken High School and Our Lady of Providence College Seminary, Warwick before completing his seminary training at the American College, Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium. He was awarded a Licentiate in Canon Law degree in 1986 from the Catholic University of America in Washington.
Following his ordination in 1977 by Bishop Louis E. Gelineau, he was then assigned as assistant pastor of Blessed Sacrament in Providence. His other assignments included assistant pastor at Blessed Sacrament in Providence; as Judge Instructor for the diocesan Tribunal; as a member of the diocesan Seminary Formation Team; and as diocesan Director of Vocations and Formation. He was the Executive Director of the Secretariat for Priestly Formation and Vocations at the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (NCCB) in Washington in 1992.

Pope John Paul II named him “Prelate of Honor to His Holiness” with the title of Monsignor in 1995, and in 1996 he was appointed Associate General Secretary for the NCCB. Msgr. Theroux returned to the diocese in 1997 and was appointed Moderator of the Curia. In 1999, he was named pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Providence and then in 2004, he was appointed Vicar General while continuing as Moderator of the Curia.
Monsignor served as pastor of St. Francis of Assisi in Wakefield from 2011 until his appointment at Holy Apostles parish.
