Hugh B. Bain Middle School and Bain+2 Receive FUTP60 Funds!

Students and Staff write grant to continue efforts with community health and wellness.

FUTP60 Funds Awarded Again!

Cranston, RI – 01/19/2016– Hugh B. Bain Middle School is continuing to take the lead for student health by participating in a nationwide wellness initiative. Community-focused and fun, Fuel Up to Play 60 is activating schools and communities to support school wellness initiatives, good nutrition and physical activity, which help educate students and curb obesity. In partnership with the National Dairy Council (NDC) and the National Football League (NFL), Bain+2 Afterschool Program and its students are recruiting friends, parents, teachers and business and community leaders to join them in pledging to adopt healthier behaviors, such as choosing foods encouraged by the United States Department of Agriculture, which has also joined the initiative, and committing to 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

Bain+2 and Hugh B. Bain will host Fuel Up to Play 60’s Let’s Dance! and Fuel Up Your Community Plays with recent awarded funds. In the photo we see Brian Lally, Assistant Principal of Bain, Shane Becker, Site Coordinator for Bain+2, and Jane Vergnani, Nutrition Specialist from the New England Dairy Council, who are all excited to work together, with the new plays chosen by the students. The Bain+2 Student Leadership team will host a Let’s Dance! School Wide Competition, with awarded funds. The winning team will receive awards, recognition on a plaque at school, and a prize. Funds will also go towards purchasing picnic tables that will sit outside of Hugh B. Bain Middle School during the warmer months to help with the summer meals program during Camp XL. The students want their community to be more involved through volunteering to judge the Let’s Dance! School Wide Competition. Please contact Ayana Crichton at acrichton@cpsed.net if you would like to be more involved.
